Accepting the Creator/creature distinction is one of the great challenges of the Christian life. Simply put: we are weak and needy. Many of us are good at putting on brave faces, feigning strength, and acting like we have it all together. The problem with all this posturing is that it’s illegitimate. It’s not reality.

And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Oh, how much time and energy we’ve wasted pretending to be strong! All the while, weakness is the way.

The incomparable J.I. Packer wrote a book by this very title. I loved it and I hope you will read it, and be found reading it over and over.
