WITH OUR HEAD IN THE CLOUDS

WITH OUR HEADS IN THE CLOUDS

Rush Children, Short Stories

* A rhyming children’s story from 2001. My little kids enjoyed it way back when.

I love to lie outside in the grass,
To watch the clouds in the sky as they pass.

I love to imagine the shapes that I see.
Some look like animals and people to me.

I’ve seen turtles, chipmunks, and cuddly bears.
I once saw a monkey that lost all his hair.

Some clouds are thick and some are thin.
Did I tell you, I saw a pink and blue hen?

Some clouds move fast, but most are slow.
Just yesterday, I saw a three-headed crow.

There’s a mom kangaroo with her jumpy son, Joey.
And close behind them creeps a cat named Cloe.

Galloping across is a horse named Ted,
And riding on his back is a knight dressed in red.

They are chasing a cow with black and white spots.
Oh, and look there’s a snake that’s tied up in knots.

Just like I told you, there is so much to see,
When our heads are in the clouds and our minds run free.

I also see people when I look at the sky.
You might too, if you give it a try.

You might see your mom or your dad or your brother
And maybe your sister’s significant other.

I’ve seen nurses, teachers, and doctors in white.
I once saw myself flying a kite.

But there’s one special Person I’ve not yet seen.
If you read the Bible, you know who I mean.

God said Jesus is coming again,
To gather all His children, women and men.

But there’s something about Jesus that makes Him unique.
He won’t come back in a way you might think.

He won’t drive a bus and He won’t fly a plane.
He won’t command a bright shining train.

He won’t put on shoes and jog down from the sky,
And He certainly won’t ride a giant black fly.

Jesus will come in His own special way.
It’s all such a secret no one knows the day.

There is only one thing we have all clearly heard.
God said it plainly right there in His word.

He will return with great glory, riding a cloud,
As the archangel blows his brass trumpet loud.

All who believe will soar through the air.
Surrounded by clouds, we will join Him there.

From that moment on, life won’t be the same.
No more sad tears and no unhappy pain.

No more scraped knees and no more catching the flu.
No stubbing your toes and no more gum on your shoe.

Because of all this, it’s easy to see,
How very much Jesus loves you and me.

So with our heads in the clouds, keep looking on high. One day, the Lord will ride down from the sky.

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words.
